October 2024

Lizzette Gonzalez Reynolds

Speaker: Lizzette Reynolds,
Tennessee’s Commissioner of Education

You are invited to join us on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, for a delicious dinner and to hear Lizzette Reynolds who currently serves as Tennessee’s Commissioner of Education. Reynolds was educated at Southwestern University (1983-1987) and holds a degree in political science. She worked for a state senator and as a lobbyist before serving as deputy legislative director during George W Bush’s 1994-2000 tenure as Governor of Texas. She was the Secretary’s Regional Representative, U.S. Department of Education, Region VI. While in this role she was invited to the Board of Visitors of Southwestern University, She joined the Texas Education Agency (the state education agency) in January, 2007, as the Acting Deputy Commissioner for Statewide Policy and Programs. She was given management responsibility in September 2007 for the Curriculum Division. Reynolds was sworn in on June 29, 2023, and during her tenure the Tennessee Department of Education has implemented strong literacy and learning acceleration policies. These policies have led to historic academic gains thanks to the hard work of districts, administrators, and families, as student scores rebound from impacts of the pandemic.

Let’s welcome Lizzette Reynolds to RWRC!

Please note: Lisa Dickinson, Chair for the Caring for America Committee, will pass around a collection basket at the dinner meeting to help assist our fellow citizens in East Tennessee affected by Hurricane Helene.
